💡 CityCosy teaches you something... This sandstone house is mentioned as dating from 1752 in the book "Le Patrimoine des Communes du Bas Rhin" (The Heritage of the Lower Rhine Communes). The boatman Jean Jacques Ulrich, future member of the city's grand senate in 1761-62, obtained permission to transform the facade of his half-timbered house in the Regency style. In 1792, Daniel Ulrich, the boatman's son, commanded a company of Strasbourg pontonniers (bridge builders), these Strasbourg volunteers participating in the defense of the city.
